Structure analysis of porous media

The pore network models are built on the real structure of porous media. For this we use different 2D and 3D analysis techniques. For 2D imaging we use different microscopes and CCD cameras from the chair of Thermal Process Engineering. These are exemplarily, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy. In cooperation with TU Munich we study 2D images from Lyomicroscopy (data provided by TU Munich). For 3D imaging we use the micro-computed tomography facilities (Procon CT Alpha and Mavi from Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM Kaiserslautern) of the chair of Thermal Process Engineering. In addition to that, we use facilities at FRM-II (Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum, Garching) and at SINQ (Paul Scherer Institute Villigen, Switzerland) to study in-situ the distribution of water inside porous media. The image data are processed with Mavi, OpenPNM and inhouse codes.
