Thesis Title: “Computational study of drainage in stochastic sintered porous transport layers using Lattice Boltzmann model”

Thesis Abstract: The anodic porous transport layer (PTL) plays a pivotal role in the performance of the polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) water electrolyzer. The objective of this work is to develop a MATLAB algorithm for generating stochastic sintered PTL structures with varying morphological properties, including porosity and pore size distribution, to facilitate Lattice Boltzmann (LBM) simulations of drainage in anodic PTLs. In this thesis, a MATLAB algorithm was developed for generating 3D sintered PTLs with varying porosity and pore size distribution. The generated structures were systematically compared with established literature data for sintered PTLs. Subsequently, selected structures were integrated into an LBM algorithm to test the simulation for water drainage, with results being visually presented and quantitatively analyzed across the thickness.
