Development of scalable bio-reactors based on porous structures for the immobilization and growth of productive biofilms. The project (SPP: 2494) focuses on the anaerobic Carbon monoxide fermentation employing Methanosarcina acetivorans, a microorganism with proven potential for industrial synthesis of chemicals, including terpenes. The Model development follows a 3D numerical approach including a computationally efficient pore network model of coupled transport and growth built on realistic structure of the porous bio-reactor and the kinetics of M. acetivorans.
